POTUS Declares May 1st to be 'Loyalty Day'
“In order to recognize the American spirit of loyalty and the sacrifices that so many have made for our Nation, the Congress, by Public Law 85-529 as amended, has designated May 1 of each year as “Loyalty Day.” On this day, let us reaffirm our allegiance to the United States of America, our Constitution, and our founding values.”
So I realize this has been on the books since the fifties and every administration (with the odd exception of Nixon) has made this presidential proclamation pretty much every year, but the fact that we still recognize such an unadulterated McCarthyist holiday in place of May Day goes to show how engrained big ‘C’ Capitalism is in our country.
Additionally, I feel like the U.S. might benefit from a Dept. of Orwellian Language to double check for when propaganda sound too much like propaganda.
